IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY PLEASE PHONE THE DENTAL SURGERY ON 01482 506004

If you are calling outside of normal hours and have an urgent dental problem, please consider if this could wait until the following day or over the weekend rather than accessing the out of hours services. Call the surgery on (01482) 506004 for assistance and information.

If calling out of hours and the problem is extremely severe please contact the out of hours service through NHS111.

If your dental problem includes uncontrolled bleeding and a swelling that is causing breathing problems this is an emergency and you should go to A&E.

Any patient who is unwell or has Covid symptoms may be asked to postpone their dental appointment, and are asked to call the dental surgery to check.

Chewing gum

Chewing Gum

Chewing gum is promoted by the British Dental Health Foundation – it helps reduce acid attack from sugars and helps to reduce tooth decay

Chewing gum has been in several news stories recently:

  • Jamie Oliver has campaigned for the UK to adopt a ”Singapore style” ban on chewing gum. He has been challenged by Dr Nigel Carter OBE (Chief Executive, British Dental Health Foundation) for uncharacteristically failing to understand the beneficial health issues of chewing gum.
  • A recent study done at Reading University has shown that chewing gum helps if you need to get an annoying song out of your head!
  • Studies have shown that chewing gum can increase concentration and alertness by 10%. Presumably why football managers such as Sir Alex Ferguson and Sam Allardyce regularly chew gum.
